DeepSouthCon 1 was held the July 4th weekend of 1963 in Huntsville, AL. It was called MidSouthCon, though it is unrelated to the ongoing convention of that name, and was only retroactively made the first DSC the following year.

It was chaired by David Hulan and hosted at his house. Besides the hosts (David and Katya Hulan, there were 5 attendees, Al Lewis (from LA as part of a cross-country trip he was on), Bill Plott, Rick Norwood, William Gibson, and Dick Ambrose (or, according to another source, Marty Moore). Katya Hulan described it as "a very enjoyable party."
