Cedar Rapids, the second-largest city in Iowa, lies on both banks of the Cedar River, 100 miles northeast of Des Moines, the state's capital and largest city. Iowa City, 20 miles north, is the home of the University of Iowa, whose library offers an exemplary sf pulp and fanzine collection, and the onetime club SFLIS. The region has hosted ICON since 1975.
