Carol was born in Boston in 1927, and grew up in Bennington, Vermont and Worcester, Massachusetts.

She married L. Jerome Stanton and later was the fourth wife of SF fan/author/editor Frederik Pohl. They were married in 1953, separated in 1977 and divorced in 1983. Together, the Pohls had three children, and co-edited several books.

Carol moved to Greece in 1976, and lived there for many years. At some point, and married a person named Wilson and moved to Monmouth, New Jersey, where she died in 2005.
