The 1956 Best Professional Magazine Hugo was presented September 3 at NyCon II.

This third year of the Hugos there was for the first time a shortlist of nominees, with the winner selected by voting by the members of the convention. Oddly, however, in this one category, nominations were not taken and the category was entirely write-in.

Winner: Astounding Science Fiction ed. by John W. Campbell, Jr.
