(???? – )

Alfred Hind was a fan and pro from Manchester, UK[1] active in the 1950s. He was a member of the Nor'west Science Fantasy Club from 1953 and attended the Supermancon of 1954. He was the author of five published short stories between 1950 and 1955.

Tony Glynn recounted some memories of Hind in Relapse #16 (February 2010):

For some reason, Eric and a forgotten member of the Manchester gang, Alf Hinde [sic], did not get on with each other. Alf was a struggling writer and he and I exchanged manuscripts for mutual criticism. He contributed some stories to the John Spencer mags and went on to sell to the Vargo Statten Magazine. At the Supermancon he encountered the editor of that publication, Alastair Patterson [sic], in the bar and tackled him over non-payment for work published some time before and they had a furious row. My last contact with Alf was a letter from him saying he was off to Gafia in order to try his hand at what I remember he called 'proper writing'. I never learned how he fared.

The story in question must have been 'Hollister and Me', published in Vargo Statten Science Fiction Magazine #3 (April 1954). Hind did have one further story published in Authentic Science Fiction #61 (September 1955) although presumably this would have been submitted some time before.
