GEnie was the General Electric Network for Information Exchange online service. Its Rountables were special interest groups (SIGs) with discussion areas, message boards and other sections much like CompuServe, The Source, Prodigy, Delphi and other online operations prior to the wide use of the internet. GEnie had several science fiction SIGs and several related to S-F devoted to gaming, Jerry Pournelle, Star Trek, space, etc. GEnie provided free memberships to members of the Science Fiction Writers of America (SFWA) and became a central online location for many S-F authors.
