(1908 – ????[1])

Dr. Thelma A. Shull was a fan living in Evanston, IL, who attended Chicon, the 1940 Worldcon in Chicago, along with her mother, Sara M. (Boob) Shull (Mrs. Orvis Monroe Shull, September 14, 1889–December 28, 1950); her sister, Hazel Shull (1921–????);  and brother, Orvis Monroe “Jimmie” Shull III (January 1, 1923–February 10, 1999).[1] The latter three were then living in Millheim, PA.[2]

Charlie Hornig, in a letter in VOM 10 (December 1940), noted that he had:

Spent considerable time in Evanston with Thelma Shull, the fan and Rosicrucian — also reincarnationist and occultist.

  2. We haven’t found evidence that any of the Shulls besides Thelma were involved in fandom, other than attending the Worldcon. However, there was a Millheim branch of the Science Fiction League, and its assistant director, Richard Allen Frank, also attended Chicon.
