Peter Day
(1930[1] – February 23, 2003)
Peter Day was a UK fan, originally from Manchester and later Birmingham, active from the 1960s. He was a member of the Delta SF Film Group, directing their film Breathworld, and was on the committee for Thirdmancon, the 1968 Eastercon. He was later a member of the Birmingham Science Fiction Group, reviewing books for the Birmingham Science Fiction Group Newsletter, and was a regular attendee at Novacon from the 1980s.
He had been a member of the Eastercon in 1964 and 1965 and the 1965 Worldcon. He may have dropped out of fandom after Thirdmancon, reconnecting through a local writers group about ten years later and resuming convention-going in the early 1980s. At Novacon he helped with the art show. He had been working on an heroic fantasy novel for years. Chris Morgan said, 'I'll miss his strong opinions and his great sense of humour. I'm sorry he never achieved his potential as a writer'[2].
Day had done national service in the Coldstream Guards. At one stage he owned a block of flats in Manchester, and at another time he managed a launderette[3].
