Maurice Goldsmith
(1913 – 1997)
Dr Maurice Goldsmith was a fan active from the 1950s. In the wider world he was the founding director of the International Science Policy Foundation (ISPF) and a founder of the Association of British Science Writers.
In his ISPF role he was one of the creators of the Arthur C. Clarke Award and served as a judge seven times between the Award's first presentation in 1987 and 1997. As 'science correspondent' for the magazine Illustrated he was responsible for occasionally securing coverage of science-fictional and fan matters within its pages, such as the article on the Medway Science and Fantasy Club in the September 12, 1953 issue.
Goldsmith attended the Coroncon in 1953 where he gave a paper that was much admired by members of the Medway group.
