(Did you mean a Dan Steffan fanzine?)
A fanzine published by Alma Hill for the Writer's Exchange. All issues included fiction, along with essays to help writers. Prior to the first publication, Alma sent mail to essentially all Mensa members in New England, inquiring about an interest in starting a Mensa Special Interest Group on Science Fiction. The first issue of "Wizard" was sent to all those who responded positively, with a letter describing the results of her initial inquiry and describing the purposes of the Writer's Exchange and her reasons for creating "Wizards". Some copies of issue #1 will thus have this letter folded inside as an insert.
Issue #1 was 5 1/2" x 8 1/2". Later issues were slightly smaller, at 5 1/2" x 7 1/2".
Issue | Date | Pages | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
1 | May 1966 | 16 | Includes a letter from Robert A.W. Lowndes describing the 6 reasons why a submitted manuscript might be rejected unread. Some copies included a letter insert from the editor (see above). |
2 | July 1966 | 24 | Includes letters from Roger Zelazny and Ben Bova. |
3 | September 1966 | 24 | Includes a 4 pp insert (single folded sheet) titled "Mensa Science Fiction", for the Mensa Special Interest Group. Presumably, the insert was only included in issues being sent to the Mensa members. |
