(???? –)
Jack W. Banks was a UK fan and fanartist from Eastbourne active in the 1940s. He was a member of the British Fantasy Society and an occasional contributor to Futurian War Digest although his fan activity was limited by his status as a conscientious objector. In #21, J. Michael Rosenblum reported that:
He received a 6 months sentence for refusing to submit for medical examination for the forces and thus is, I think, the first stfan C.O. to undergo imprisonment for his ideals.
However, the next issue reported that he had been released following a second appeal while #24 gave an update that he:
... is now 'on probation' at an 'International Voluntary Service for Peace' service scheme at Plaistow, London; in fulfilment of his 'social service' exemption.
His writings in Futurian War Digest appeared under the heading 'Delvings into the Weird and Imaginative'. He reportedly contributed artwork to the first issue of BFS Beyond.
He is listed in the Directory of Anglo-Fandom of 1945 but not in later directories.
