Leicester, UK
Leicester is a city in England's East Midlands region. It was home to Maurice K. Hanson in the 1930s and R. Rowland Johnson in the 1940s.
Because of Johnson's presence it hosted the Midvention at Easter 1943, the first British convention since May 1939. A successor Midventionette followed in 1944.
In later years LEXICON was scheduled to be held May 28–31, 1982 but was seemingly cancelled through lack of bookings while Precursor was a fannish relaxacon originally slated for Leicester on August 19-20, 1995, the weekend before the 1995 Worldcon, but ultimately held in Stevenage.Clonespiracy did take place, a small post-Conspiracy '87 convention held January 15–17, 1988, perhaps coincidentally in the same hotel that was used for out of town visitors to the Midvention 45 years earlier. Also plokta.con 1.0 on May 26-29, 2000.
Magic Labyrinth was an sf and comics shop in the city.
