Binghamton is the largest of the "Triple Cities" which includes Johnson City and Endicott, NY, which lies on the Susquehanna River in Upstate NY. Vestal, while not one of the Triple Cities, is adjacent to Binghamton and fannish significant.

The first fannish activity in the area was the Terminal Beach Club which formed in the late 60s and was officially a student club at SUNY/Binghamton, but from the first included some non-university members.

The Terminal Beach Club ran a small convention, T.A.N.S.T.A.A.F.L. CON in 1970 and published a clubzine, Son of a Beach, but otherwise was primarily social. While the members started to disperse in 1972 or 3, the remained connected as Binghamton Fandom and held twice annual Bingycons (campouts in the summer and parties in the winter for several years afterwards.

In the 80s, an entirely separate group (of which very little is known) ran Triciticon '81.

From the early 70s until sometime after the year 2000, Brian Perry and Betsy Perry ran Fat Cat Books am SF bookstore in Johnson City.

The Binghamton area had it share of professional activity, as Jack Dann, George Zebrowski and Pam Sargent all lived there where they formed the "Binghamton Bafia".
