Therapeutic treatment for upset mental conditions. But the word was misused by Speer and Rothman for expositions of their own psychologies, of the sort later called autoanalyses. Indeed, it has a vague applicability here; "talking it out" actually does have value in reducing tension and getting perspective on oneself, as confessors and suchlike amateur healers have long known.
