Tynecon II
Revision as of 09:53, 17 January 2024 by Mark Plummer (talk | contribs)
Tynecon II; The Mexicon (effectively Mexicon 1), was held May 25-28 in 1984 at the Royal Station Hotel in Newcastle, UK. It was chaired by Kevin Williams. The venue had previously hosted the first Tynecon, the 1984 Eastercon. The programme book does not formally identify guests of honour but notes that:
... we are particularly pleased to welcome Russell Hoban and Alasdair Gray, both writers who have built a considerable reputation for themselves in the "mainstream".
The newsletter was The Cactus Times.
The programme book was edited by Rob Hansen. In his chairman's introduction, Williams wrote that:
Mexicon is the principle and Tynecon II is this year's manifestation of what we hope will become an annual event.
The programme book lists 212 members to May 7, 1984.
