Art Castillo

(November 3, 1930-April 19, 1962)

Art Castillo was a cartoonist and writer whose work appeared in fanzines. Habakkuk, Warhoon, and other fanzines published his cartoons, illustrations, and articles. Castillo was also associated with the Fortean Society and published artwork in the Fortean magazine Doubt.

In 2016 Joshua Blubuhs published an essay on Art Castillo as a Fortean on his blog

In the nineteen fifties. for a time, Art Castillo lived with Trina Robbins, who then used the name Trina Castillo, though they were not married.

Castillo's obituary appeared in Fanac 88.

In 2020 Hannah Edgar published an article on Castillo in the Chicago Reader. The focus of the article was Moulin Jimmy's, a panoramic mural of caricatures Castillo created in the nineteen fifties for a tavern in Chicago. The mural still existed when the tavern closed during the pandemic. The article mentions that Castillo's archives were in the possession of John Oppenheimer, a long time friend, then resident of Whidbey Island, Washington.
