Bill Courval, Jr. (born William Joseph Courval, Jr.), a "promising younger fan" from San Diego, committed suicide while in the U.S. Army a few days after New Year's 1959, a sort of culmination to the Year of the Jackpot. He shot himself in his 1949 Hudson, parked at the side of the road. He had been on leave from boot camp for the holidays.
He was a member of The Cult.
