Mexicon III was held May 26-29 1989 in the Albany Hotel in Nottingham, UK. The chair was Greg Pickersgill.

As with previous Mexicons there were no formally designated guests of honour. The featured guests were Algis Budrys, Jonathan Carroll and Sydney Jordan.

The programme book edited by Paul Kincaid was mostly given over to 'The Mexicon Survey' in which 44 British and British-based writers responded to a set of questions about writing, influences, Britishness and ideas of genre. It was explicitly influenced by the Double-Bill Symposium of 1969 and in turn inspired Niall Harrison to repeat the exercise in 2009. The Kincaid and Harrison surveys are both included in British Science Fiction And Fantasy: Twenty Years, Two Surveys published by the BSFA in 2010. Students of pattern-matching will note that we're due a new iteration in 2029.

The programme book includes no membership list but progress report #3 shows 286 members to May 2, 1989.
