(1958 –)

Catherine Pickersgill (previously Catherine McAulay and known as Katie Hoare in the mid- to late-1980s) is a UK fan originally from Newcastle-upon-Tyne and later Reading and Haverfordwest active from 1975.

A long-time enthusiastic science fiction reader, she encountered fandom through OUSFS in 1975 and maintained contact through visits to London meetings at the One Tun. Her first convention was Albacon 80, the 1980 Eastercon. She attended many conventions after this including Eastercons, Novacons, Unicons and Beneluxcons. She often worked behind the scenes on these conventions, usually uncredited although notable roles included hotel liaison as part of the steering committee for Conspiracy '87, the 1987 Worldcon, and with Greg Pickersgill on the fan rooms at Intersection and Paragon. She also worked on the guest of honour liaison teams for Loncon 3 and Follycon.

She has been an occasional contributor to fanzines including Rastus Johnson's Cakewalk, Attitude, Eyeballs in the Sky and Banana Wings. In the 1990s she worked on Critical Wave, doing layouts and prep for printing. She also prepared Peter Weston's book on car-door locks, On Virtually Every British Car... (Lulu, 2015).

She has been active on partner (and later husband) Greg Pickersgill's Memory Hole, Wegenheim and Alphane Moon Email Lists. She remains a keen science fiction reader and is also a fountain pen enthusiast.
