Since 2000 the editor and publisher of The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction.
He went to college at Princeton, where he was a member of the local club, Infinity, Ltd., and edited its clubzine, The Infinite Loop. After college, he worked at St. Martin's Press starting in 1988. In January 1997, he became the editor of F&SF succeeding Kristine Kathryn Rusch. He bought the magazine from Edward L. Ferman to become its publisher in 2000.
He has been an administrator of the Philip K. Dick Award since 1995.
Awards, Honors and GoHships:
He was nominated for Best Professional Editor in 1990-2006 and for Best Editor, Short Form in 2007-2011. He won the 2007 Best Editor, Short Form Hugo and the 2008 Best Editor, Short Form Hugo. He was also an editor of The New York Review of Science Fiction from 1988 to 1993, for which he was nominated for Best Semiprozine Hugo three times.
