Robert "Rob" Paul Holdstock was an English fan and writer. He published the fanzine Macrocosm.
Professionally, he was best known for his works of fantasy literature, predominantly in the subgenre of mythic fiction. Holdstock's writing was first published in 1968. His SF/fantasy works explore philosophical, psychological, and anthropological themes.
In 2012, the British Fantasy Society changed their August Derleth Award for Best Novel into the August Derleth Award for Best Horror Novel, and established the Robert Holdstock Award for Best Fantasy Novel in his honor.
