William Aldous Dyson was a UK fan from Huddersfield active in the thirties. He has the unenviable distinction of being the first known UK fan to die.

Dyson was a member of the Leeds SFL and a student at Leeds University studying colour chemistry. He was in his third year when he was found dead in the basement of the University’s chemistry department. An inquest recorded a verdict of suicide while temporarily insane. He was reportedly depressed that he might fail his exams and also been told that an injury would prevent him from ever taking part in athletics.
