Howard Bruce Franklin, known as H. Bruce Franklin, is an American cultural historian who has authored or edited several books on a range of subjects.

In the 1980s he was the John Cotton Dana Professor of English and American Studies at Rutgers University in Newark, New Jersey.

He first attained prominence as a Melville scholar and has served as president of the Melville Society.

His award-winning books and teaching on SF played a major role in establishing the academic study of the genre.
