A Westercon bid led by Terry Gish to run the 1985 Westercon in Phoenix, AZ. The bid managed to be fairly controversial. At Westerchron, both the Phoenix in 1987 bid and the CASFS (the local club) made it clear to everyone that they did not support it.

Westercon 38, the 1985 Westercon, was ultimately held in Sacramento, CA. See 1985 Westercon Site Selection.
