"Prof. A.M.Low seen by Alfred Wolmark[1]", Science Fantasy Review #1 (15 May 1939)

(October 17, 1888 – September 13, 1956)

Archibald Montgomery Low, a UK engineer and research physicist, self-styled 'Professor' as he held no university chair, worked in many fields, often on guidance systems and rocketry. His lack of focus meant he rarely saw projects to completion.

He wrote popular science books and four SF novels and was a frequent attendee at early conventions. He was an honorary member of the Science Fiction Association (SFA), appointed in June 1937, and spoke at the Second British Convention where he was elected SFA president. He was GoH at Eastercon in 1944 although he did not attend 'under military exigiencies', and he briefly attended the Thursday evening pre-convention gathering before Festivention although he said he was unable to attend at the weekend. He was president of the British Interplanetary Society for 15 years.

____

  1. Wolmark was seemingly an artist of some renown without any obvious genre connections so it's not entirely clear how he came to provide this drawing.
