Geographically, North America encompasses some 47 sovereign states and territories, but fannishly speaking, it means the U.S. and Canada.

Sometimes not even Canada — technically, the North American Science Fiction Convention could be sited there, but it wasn’t until 2023. (“Canada can hardly be counted as a separate country,” Dick Eney wrote in Fancyclopedia 2, dismissing Torcon as an “international” event.)
