Eric Steven Raymond, aka ESR and Eric the Robe (from his usual hall costume), is an American fan, hacker and Libertarian whose politics earned him a slot on the Rabid Puppies’ 2015 Campbell Award slate, justified by one story, “Within This Horizon,” in Riding the Red Horse, a 2014 anthology of military sf edited by Tom Kratman and Puppy promoter Vox Day.

He has been in fandom since the 1980s and was active on the Usenet, where he frequently posted sf book reviews, among other things.

In the 1990s, he edited and updated the Jargon File, now called The New Hacker's Dictionary, shoveled from a glossary of tech terminology that had been floating around the net since its inception at Stanford in 1975.
