Chicon 7 used some of its surplus to create the endowment for the Northern Illinois University Archives, curated at the time (June 2015) by Lynne M. Thomas. The Endowment is intended to advance the library's efforts to collect materials related to SF, fantasy, and horror, and to make those materials available to the public. It is named for Chicon 7 Fan GoH Peggy Rae Sapienza with Steven H Silver serving as the the fund's trustee.
Silver continues efforts to raise funds, but NIU doesn’t publicize the fund at all, nor appear to prioritize its Science Fiction & Fantasy Collection.
