Ignatius Frederic Clarke, a UK academic and bibliographer, was Professor of English (from 1964) at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. His first major publication was The Tale of the Future: From the Beginning to the Present Day (1961), a bibliography in several editions. This work was very useful but far from comprehensive. Later he wrote Voices Prophesying War (1966), a study of the future war sub-genre, and The Pattern of Expectation 1644-2001 (1979).
Clarke also published an 8-volume anthology of British Future Fiction 1700–1913 (2001).
He was a British Intelligence officer during World War Two.
