(1953 -- )

Kara Dalkey is an American fan and pro writer who was also cover artist for issue 55 of Rune. She is a member of the Scribblies and was a member of Albany Free Traders and of LASFS.

Dalkey helped Paolo Soleri build his first experimental arcology in the Southwest desert -- and found out one night what to do AFTER you've picked up a skunk by the tail.

An arcology (Architecture + ecology?) is a city designed in ecological terms, to provide a suitable environment for its inhabitants' work and leisure activities. Niven and Pournelle's Oath of Fealty deals with what life might be like in an arcology. In retrospect, multi-generation Slower-Than-Light interstellar ships (like that in Heinlein's Orphans of the Sky) may also be seen as arcologies.
