To '''tip in''' is to paste something into a publication so that it’s attached but not part of the binding. In the early days of [[fan]] [[publishing]], it was the most common way to add [[photographs]] to [[fanzines]]. Sometimes [[art]] was added this way, too, such as color [[hectograph]] [[illos]] in a [[mimeographed]] fanzine. 

[[Apahacks]] in particular have been known to tip-in various oddities to their [[apazines]]: [[bheer]] coasters, candy, seed packets, [[ktp]]. 

The term comes from [[book]] publishing, where the technique was once commonly used for color plates, [[author]] signatures, maps and such.
