Wilmot, Wisconsin, a tiny town roughly halfway between Chicago and Milwaukee, is the site of the Wilmot Mountain ski area, formerly owned and operated by fans Jon and Joni Stopa and their family, where they lived and hosted Wilcon for many years.
The Wilmot Mountain lodge features in a scene in the faan fiction video Faans.
Jon’s father, Walter Stopa, founded the ski resort, dubbed the "Matterhorn of the Midwest," in 1938, and Jon grew up there. The family sold the ski facility to Vail Resorts in 2016, by which time Jon had retired. Jon’s house on the property wasn’t included in the sale, and he lived there until moving to a veterans’ home.
