The Vargo Statten Fan League was a proposed club for readers of the Vargo Statten Science Fiction Magazine and other works by the author.

Editor Alistair Paterson floated the idea in the magazine's fourth issue (May 1954) in response to reader requests leading him to conclude:

that the time has arrived when a Vargo Statten Science-Fiction Fan Club should be formed amongst those enthusiastic readers to whom the Vargo Statten novels represent their favourite s-f reading and subsequently an often life-long introduction to the delights of s-f in general.

He then set out how he would envisage the club operating. At the Supermancon, also in May 1954, Ted Tubb reported meeting 'Peter Bailey[1] (Peter may soon be the Northern organiser for the Vargo Statten Club)[2].

An update appeared in #7 (November), explaining that there had been 'a temporary hold-up' while the editorship of the magazine passed from Paterson to Vargo Statten (which is to say, John Russell Fearn). In #8 (December) a further update said, 'By next month it should be possible to state definitely whether or not the Vargo Statten League is a practical proposition.' However the tone was less optimistic. #9 (January 1955) reported that 'The Publishers and Your Editor, in complete union, are of the opinion that the present time is not propitious for the launching of the Vargo Statten Fan League' although added that readers should 'consider the League indefinitely postponed'.

Club
This is a club page. Please extend it by adding information about when and where the club met, when and by whom it was founded, how long it was active, notable accomplishments, well-known members, clubzines, any conventions it ran, external links to the club's website, other club pages, etc.

When there's a floreat (Fl.), this indicates the time or times for which we have found evidence that the club existed. This is probably not going to represent the club's full lifetime, so please update it if you can!
