The Stars Our Destination
Chicago science fiction specialty bookstore named for the Alfred Bester novel, open from 1988–2003. Owned and operated by Alice Bentley, the store was originally a partnership with Greg Ketter of DreamHaven Books in Minneapolis until Bentley bought him out in 1994. In 1997, Bentley also purchased Bob Weinberg's mail order catalog and increased the small presses the store stocked. Originally located on Clark Street, in 1992, the store moved to Belmont Avenue in Chicago and to Main Street in Evanston, IL in 2000.
In addition to stocking books (new and used), the store also sold videos and collectibles and hosted book signings.
In 1998, an omnibus of Barry Hughart's The Chronicles of Master Li and Number Ten Ox trilogy was published by The Stars Our Destination Press as its only publishing project.
When the store closed in 2003, many of the fixtures were sold to fan Steven H Silver and the business was sold to Greg Ketter.
