Talk:W. Alan Devereux

Per the standards page, shouldn't this be either W. A. Devereux or Alan Devereux. The former is used in e.g. membership lists and the latter is the byline for his story and reviews, but as best I know he never used W. Alan Devereux in a fannish context. PS: I've contacted Rob Hansen about amending the variant spellings of the fiawol site except where they're direct quotes. --Mark Plummer (talk) 07:50, 20 August 2024 (PDT)
- Sorry, been away Tuesday. Was not quite aware that the Standards are so detailed – and even after rereading them now, am not sure they are applicable so directly as you seem to interpret them, but still:
- W. Alan Devereux was, as far as we are able to ascertain so far, the form he used in mundane life, so may help standardisation and googling.
- Actually, we don't know what he used in fannish context. We have a few lists, which often initialised in general, and third-hand reports. Yes, there's that one signature, but he may have wanted to limit space in a specific context. Surely there was a way of address he preferred, and it seems likelier that it was Alan then an initialism a la JR Ewing; but (so far) there is no reason to think he signed his LoCs, for example, differently than in mundane life.
- Still, if the entry is to be moved, I find W. A. much better than the simple Alan, which may have been a pseudonym of sorts. --JVjr (talk) 17:19, 20 August 2024 (PDT)
