Ycz

Ycz was a fanzine published by Richard I. Barycz in the UK. A letter supplement, Skraczes, accompanied the the third and last issue.

It was generally regarded as a crudzine. Taral Wayne reviewed the first issue in DNQ #5 (July 1978):

At first I couldn't get into it. Formula fan humour and tiny photo-reduced offset conspired against my interest. But later an article on Star Wars caught my attention half way through so that I started at the beginning again the read through to the end absorbed by Barycz' version of how Star Wars should have ended... 

Brian Earl Brown in The Whole Fanzine Catalog #6/7 (March 1979) was less impressed with #3:

Ycz is a personalzine with a film slant. The type is much too small and the material is only moderately interesting. Rating – 2. Skraczes is a letter supplement with the same too small type and a layout that seems perversiously [sic] complicated. I gave up on it even before reaching Mary Long's letter and I like Mary Long's letters. Rating — 1

Dave Langford in The Northern Guffblower #4 assessed the whole run after it was voted 'worst British fanzine':

The first issue was all about Star Wars, reported fans who wrestled with the unparagraphed layout and tiny type; the second widened its scope to deal with not only Star Wars but also Close Encounters, whilst the editor discovered that wonder of modern technology, the paragraph. Issue 3 shrank from A5 format to A6, and observers looked on in wonder as layout began to occur; the subject was still films, but Ycz began to show dangerous signs of quality. It might never have attained the giddy depths of success in this poll, had it not been for the supremely non-linear Skraczes. Fans striving to read this supplement in any logical sequence found their minds reeling with eldritch geometries of discontinuous space/time, where virtually every item was either continued elsewhere or proved to be a continuation of something which started elsewhere...
