Green was a British biographer and children's author. He was also an Oxford academic who formed part of The Inklings, the literary discussion group that included C. S. Lewis and J. R. R. Tolkien.
He became known primarily for his writings for children, particularly his books about Greece, Egypt, Norse mythology, King Arthur, and Robin Hood.
