Quicksilver
Quicksilver was a sercon fanzine published by Malcolm Edwards in the UK in 1970–1.
The first issue (also his first fanzine) appeared when Edwards was still a student at Cambridge. It was produced "with much assistance from Graham Charnock, who also designed the cover and the titles." Other contributors were Brian W. Aldiss, Dicky Howett and Christopher Priest. Issues were priced at 2/- (10p) or 30¢.
Issue 2 followed four months later with contributions from Charnock, Thomas M. Disch, James Blish, Dick Harrington, Vic Hallett and Charles Platt. Greg Pickersgill reviewed it in Fouler 6 (June 1971):
I haven't got a hell of a lot to say about the specific contents of QUICK, because most of it seems to fall into the "Yeah that’s what I thought (but never had the intelligence to verbalise)" or the obvious-when-it's-pointed-out category. Not a sneer, that, as I see QUICK, as a valuable addition to the sercon fold.
A third issue was slated for July ("unless it's delayed, in which case it will be late").
Checkpoint 10 (October 1971) reported that a "London co-operative" of Rats including Rob Holdstock, John Nielsen Hall, Greg Pickersgill and Edwards had formed "VUG Publications" to produce a number of fanzines, one of which was Quicksilver. The venture was ultimately unsuccessful and Quicksilver 3 never appeared.
In early 1972 Edwards took over the editorship of the BSFA's Vector and incorporated the material slated for Quicksilver 3 in his first issue (59, Spring 1972).
