Pat Terry

(December 25, 1883 -- January 31, 1970)

Pat Terry, born in Ireland, was an early an Australian fan who died in 1970 and is one of the Most Senior SF Fans. He started reading SF in 1904 and joined the Futurian Society of Sydney in 1964, just before one of its suspensions and was one of the first members of the Sydney Science Fiction Foundation in 1967 and became its first life member in May, 1969.

He grew ill-tempered during his long final illness and died estranged from many fans, though he left his collection to the Science Fiction Foundation.

The Pat Terry Award for Humour in SF is named after him. He was the beneficiary of the one-off Pat Terry Fan Fund to bring him to the Melbourne Science Fiction Conference in 1968.
