Los Angeles, California, nicknamed Shangri-LA, was one of the first centers of fannish activity, with Chapter 4 of the SFL established there on October 27, 1934. It was soon energized by the young Forrest J Ackerman, so that upon the demise of the SFL, the LASFL reorganized itself as LASFS on March 27, 1940.
LA has held seven Worldcons (see Los Angeles Worldcons), many Westercons, and hosts an annual Loscon.
FTLaney called its fanhabitants Fangelenos.
See LASFS and SCIFI for much more.
