Sir Kingsley William Amis was an English novelist, poet, critic, and teacher. He wrote more than 20 novels, six volumes of poetry, a memoir, various short stories, radio and television scripts, along with works of social and literary criticism.
He was the father of British novelist Martin Amis.
He is primarily known to SF fans as the author of New Maps of Hell: a Survey of Science Fiction (1960) and for his novel, The Alteration (1976), an alternate history set in a parallel universe in which the Reformation did not take place.
