Karel Čapek was a Czech writer best known for his 1920 play, R.U.R., about Rossum's Universal Robots (Rossumovi Univerzální Roboti), which introduced the term robot.

It was also the inspiration for “Q.U.R.,” a 1943 SF story by Anthony Boucher (see Liquors).
