James H. Schmitz

James Henry Schmitz was an American SF writer born in Hamburg, Germany of American parents.

He is best known for his novel The Witches of Karres (1966), originally published in Astounding in 1949. He was very popular and became one of John W. Campbell, Jr.'s mainstay Astounding authors.

The Best of James H. Schmitz was the first NESFA's Choice book. A recent collection of his short fiction is Schmitz Resurrected: Selected Stories of James H. Schmitz.
