(December 5, 1869 – September 13, 1937)

Ellis Parker Butler was a prolific early 20th-century author of largely humorous fiction, including some delightfully quirky sf and fantasy that appeared in the prozines. Stories such as “An Experiment in Gyro Hats” (1910) and “Geoffrey’s Panklaggephone” (1909) might be considered a kind of ur-steampunk.
