David Mitchell
(Were you looking for the bestselling British writer?)
A hoax neofan concocted in 1964–5 by Larry Montgomery with his friend Lamar Hollingsworth (who "never did further emerge into fandom and eventually faded into obscurity. The only … ever … presence … was in … Montgomery’s fanzines, which led to speculation (unfounded, as it turned out) that Hollingsworth himself might be a hoax"). David was supposed to be a 14-year-old archetypal enthusiast, a letter contact of Larry's, going on to pub his own Endless Shadow for Southern Fandom Press Alliance. His most developed opinions were on religion (pro, or at least against blasphemy) and sex (against nudity in sf art). However the hoax collapsed, mostly out of lack of interest by Montgomery, before it could stir a proper argument.
