Metrocon
Metrocon (Eastercon bid)
(Did you mean the New York convention?)
Metrocon was a bid to hold the 1983 Eastercon in central London. An advertisement in the programme book for Channelcon, the 1982 Eastercon, listed its committee as:
- Dave Langford (chair and programme)
- Dermot Dobson (Security and technical services)
- Martin Hoare (Operations and hotel liaison)
- Kevin Smith (Hotel liaison & Treasurer)
- John Stewart (Films, video & technical services)
- John Harvey (Fan Room)
- Rob Jackson (Publications)
- Ian Maule (Memberships)
- Joseph Nicholas (Auctions)
The planned venue was The Piccadilly Hotel, Piccadilly, London W1 with double/twin rooms at £15.00 per person per night.
At the bidding session during Channelcon it lost narrowly to Albacon II in Glasgow by 222 votes to 199. This was the last serious attempt to hold an Eastercon in central London.
