Alan Barclay was the working name of George Barclay Tait, a professional writer of science fiction from the UK active from the 1950s. He attended the Coroncon of 1953, the Supermancon in 1954 and Cytricon II in 1956.

He was the author of 26 works of short fiction between 1951 and 1961 with most appearing in New Worlds and Science Fantasy, and five novels from Robert Hale Ltd in the 1970s.

ISFDB says that Barclay received a degree in civil engineering, and served in the R.A.F. during the Second World War, working with metallurgy and ballistics.

In Les Spinge 14 (January 1965), Sid Birchby reported a recent stay in the Bonnington Hotel in London, scene of the Coroncon 12 years earlier where he recalled that "It was in the bar there that I found myself standing next to New Worlds author 'Alan Barclay' and realised that he had been one of my lecturers for three years at University."
