William Shatner is an actor, musician, author, film director, and comedian.

He gained worldwide fame for his portrayal of Captain James Tiberius Kirk, Commander of the Federation Starship USS Enterprise, in the SF television series Star Trek, from 1966 to 1969; Star Trek: The Animated Series, from 1973 to 1974; and in seven of the subsequent Star Trek feature films, from 1979 to 1994. He has written a series of books chronicling his experiences playing Captain Kirk and being a part of Star Trek, and has co-written several novels set in the Star Trek universe. He has also co-authored (with Ron Goulart) a series of SF fiction novels called TekWar that were adapted for TV.

Awards, Honors and GoHships:

Shatner earned Saturn Award nominations for his performances in the Star Trek films. He earned five Best Actor nominations, and won the award for Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. He also earned their Life Career Award in 1980.

In 2004, Shatner won his first Emmy Award for his role as "Denny Crane" on The Practice. In 2005, he won his first Golden Globe award and a second Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his work on Boston Legal. In 2009, Shatner won a Streamy Award in the category of Best Reality Web Series.

On June 2, 2011, Shatner received an honorary Doctor of Letters from McGill University, his alma mater.
