Westercon 44 was held July 2-6, 1991 at the Gage Residence Hall, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC. GoHs: William Gibson and C. J. Cherryh; FGoHs: Jerry Kaufman and Suzanne Tompkins; Other GoHs: Steve Jackson [Gaming]; Patrick & Teresa Nielsen Hayden [Editor]; Warren Oddsson [Artist]; Verna Trestrail [Lensman]. The toastmaster was Steve Fahnestalk and it was chaired by Terry Fowler.
It was held jointly with VCON 19.
This was a convention which left many participants dissatisfied (e.g., a university setting where many huckster tables had to be packed up each day because they were in public space) and which resulted in a five figure loss for the sponsoring club.
