Westercon 39

Westercon 39, AKA Halleycon, was a convention held 3-6 July 1986 at the Town & Country Hotel in San Diego, CA. The GoHs were David Brin and Karen Turner.

Attendance was around 2700, and it was chaired by Gail Hanrahan, Mitchell Walker, and Curtis White. The line for the masquerade reached epic proportions, and there was an earthquake just after the con (so no one blamed the fans for it.)

The convention was nicknamed 'Halleycon' because of the return of Halley's Comet. There was an announcement for a San Diego in '61 hoax bid for Halleycon II (Westercon 144) in 2061 for the next return.
